Seed Consultants Recognizes Long-Time Plant Breeder with Award
Crop Watch 2014: Chris Jeffries presents special award to 50-year veteran of seed business.

Chris Jeffries, head of Seed Consultants, Inc., interrupted a customer meeting at Batesville, Ind., recently to present what he felt was a well-deserved recognition. He surprised Dave Nanda with a special recognition and award for his service to the seed industry over a career spanning 50 years.

"He has done a lot of things, and developed hybrids that were sold within the industry to farmers," Jeffries says. "We even sold one of the hybrids he developed while working at another company long before Dave came to work with us."

Nanda's career spans 50 years in the seed business. He received his formal training both in Indiana and the University of Wisconsin. After receiving a PHD there, he worked for several companies, including O's Gold, Supercrost, Trojan, Stewart Seeds, Bird Hybrids and most recently, Seed Consultants. He joined Seed Consultants four years ago as Director of Genetics and Technology. Since that time he has been involved in helping select hybrids and varieties for the company's seed line-up, plus has spoken at company meetings and written news articles to keep customers up to date on changes and trends in technology.

In addition, Nanda writes articles that appear in several Farm Progress publications under the 'Breeder's Journal' and 'Corn Illustrated' columns. He helped develop the 'Corn Illustrated' concept, which involves digging deeper into production techniques and the future for better corn genetics, several years ago.
