Cotton’s fight to regain markets appears to be paying dividends

Cotton Incorporated executives are always looking for opportunities to sell more cotton, producers learn.

As Cotton Incorporated’s senior vice president for global supply chain marketing, Mark Messura is on the front lines of the cotton industry’s battle to reclaim market share against cheaper-priced synthetics.

Messura acknowledges cotton has faced some tough times because of the price gap between cotton and synthetic fibers of recent years. He also believes cotton has turned a corner, although researchers and marketers at Cotton Incorporated still have a lot of work to do.

He spoke to a multi-region group of cotton producers about those battles during their tour of the Cotton Incorporated’s headquarters in Cary, N.C., and then was interviewed by Delta Farm Press about the current outlook for cotton fiber.
