The tax law changes passed near the end of 2010 created some unusual opportunities for farmers and ranchers. New legislation increased the amount of bonus and Section 179 depreciation you can take on equipment purchases and it raised the exemption for both gift and estate taxes. But those measures could be short-lived due to the uncertainty over the law in the future.
