The latest crop progress report shows the soybean harvest stands at 73 percent complete—that’s up this week from 49 percent last week.
Soybean harvest
Minnesota farmers report having 95 percent of the soybean crop off the fields. Following is Nebraska (91); Iowa (88); Illinois (77); Indiana (69); Wisconsin (68); Ohio (63); Kansas and Michigan producers report 61 percent of the harvest complete and Missouri reports 37 percent done.
The crop progress report shows that 96 percent of the soybeans in the fields have dropped their leaves.
Corn harvest
The USDA crop progress report shows a slow progress in the corn harvest.
The latest report out shows 57 percent of the corn has been harvested—that’s up from 41 percent last week.
In the Midwest, Illinois is leading the way with 63 percent of the corn crop off the fields followed by Iowa and Missouri at 62 percent. Minnesota producers say 59 percent of the corn is harvested there followed by Nebraska farmers reporting 55 percent complete. Next is Indiana (46); Pennsylvania (32); Wisconsin (25); followed by Michigan and Ohio (23).
Farmers also reported 60 percent of the corn left standing in the fields is in excellent or good condition.
