STATE FAIR: "Capturing the South Dakota State Fair” was painted by Gregory Wimmer in 2004. The first state fair was held Sept. 29 to Oct. 2, 1885, in Huron. For 20 years the fair moved around to various cities throughout South Dakota — Sioux Falls, Yankton, Mitchell and Aberdeen — until making Huron its permanent home in 1905. Lon Tonneson
I always check out the murals when I am visit Huron, S.D. The city has about a dozen murals painted on the sides of downtown buildings. The murals are of scenes of the town and the surrounding farms and ranches from the late 1800s to the mid-1900s. A stroll through Huron to see the murals is like taking a walk back in time.
