A program in the European Union may help some U.S. soybean farmers. EU member states will soon be required to fill energy needs with renewable sources, including transportation fuel. A new directive from the USSEC will source verified soybeans for production of biodiesel in Europe, helping reach targets. Bunge is participating, helping provide the U.S. soybean market chain with a new export opportunity. There are, however, some restrictions, and will apply to about 8 states to start with.

Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Max Armstrong, veteran farm broadcaster and host of This Week in Agribusiness.
