1. In the latest Ag Economy Barometer, 75% of farmers surveyed said they thought the trade dispute with China will be resolved in a way that’s beneficial to U.S. agriculture. That number has been consistent among the 400 producers surveyed monthly for the barometer, In six of the eight months since March 2019, more than 70% of respondents said they expect the dispute to be resolved in a way that benefits U.S. agriculture. – Farm Futures
2. There is no cure for African swine fever, but drugs developed to fight tuberculosis or malaria could help fight it. Since the first reported detection of ASF last summer, more than 1 million pigs have been culled. – South China Morning Post
3. Microsoft introduced its cloud-based platform for data-driven farming, Azure FarmBeats, this week. It combines data from soil moisture sensors, satellites, drones, weather stations and other sources. – GeekWire
4. “Planting trees and sequestering carbon in soil are likely to remain the two most effective approaches,” to taking carbon out of the atmosphere, said former vice president Al Gore. “There’s already some indication that farms that operate this way are more resilient in the face of climate extremes.” Gore has turned his family’s 400-acre farm in Carthage, Tennessee, into an experiment in what he says is the world’s most realistic chance at averting climate catastrophe. – Farm Futures
5. Wisconsin has had the highest number of farm bankruptcy filings over the past year, according to an American Farm Bureau Federation report. The report tracked bankruptcy filings over the past 12 months ending September 2019. It found the Midwest accounted for 40% of the nation's Chapter 12 farm bankruptcy filings, a 24% increase from the previous year. – U.S. News and World Report
6. The New York Police Department touted a 106-pound drug bust, but it wasn't a drug. Instead it was hemp purchased by Green Angel CBD. The product was purchased from Fox Holler Farms in New Haven, Vermont. Each box contained documentation from a third-party lab stating the plant had THC-levels below .3%. – Burlington Free Press
7. Hop production was down 25% on many Michigan farms this year. Growers reported problems with corn borer. Hops are fragile, as they need to be dried within a couple hours of harvest. – Michigan Farmer
