Western Illinois University's Hoof & Horn Jackpot Show will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29 at the Roseville, Ill., fairgrounds.
"People from all over the Midwest will show their steers and heifers at this show," says Meghan Birdsell, a junior agriculture major from Ashland and co-chair of the show.
Cory Thompson from South Dakota will judge the show. Cash prizes will be awarded to breed champions, grand champion heifer and steer, reserve grand champion heifer and steer and third place overall heifer and steer.
According to Birdsell, participants will also be able to earn points for the Illinois Beef Association that will go toward different prizes. Students and faculty from the agriculture department and the student organization, Hoof & Horn Club, plan and organize the annual jackpot show.
