Informative presentations, an extensive trade show, and an opportunity to network with some of the leaders in corn and soybean production are all on the agenda for the 2019 West Tennessee Grain and Soybean Producers Conference.

This University of Tennessee Extension event will be held on Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Dyer County Fairgrounds on James Rice Road. Registration opens at 7:45 a.m. As visitors arrive, they can explore numerous trade show booths and enjoy a time of meet and greet with representatives from area agribusinesses.

Breakout sessions begin at 9 a.m. They include presentations on trade and tariffs, inversions and pesticide applications, on-farm storage economics, and an overview of soil moisture sensors.

All visitors will reconvene in Building 1 at 11 a.m. to hear from Dan Luepkes, Illinois farmer and cast member of RFD-TV’s reality competition show, Corn Warrior. The show follows real-life farmers as they compete for the highest yielding corn. While he didn’t win the Corn Warrior contest, Luepkes’ field produced more than 324 bushels per acre, earning him the 2018 Illinois corn yield title.

A complimentary lunch will be served at noon and will be immediately followed by the conference’s keynote presentation, “The Wild Side of Weather,” led by Eric Snodgrass with Nutrien Ag Solutions.

The conference will close with a session on herbicide stewardship and an opportunity to complete the 2019 Dicamba Training. This training is federally mandated for all applicators and handlers of dicamba used in over-the-top applications in soybean and cotton in 2019. Before the training, there will be a drawing for several door prizes.

Producers, commercial applicators and certified crop advisors can obtain certification points at the conference.
