Enlist™ weed control System offers whole-farm solution

Growers in the South can plant Enlist E3™ soybeans and Enlist™ cotton and benefit from Enlist™ herbicides and glufosinate to control tough weeds.

The ability to use Enlist™ herbicides in both Enlist™ cotton and Enlist E3™ soybeans gives farmers access to a whole-farm solution for tough weeds.

Cotton farmers who’ve been planting PhytoGen® cottonseed with the Enlist trait are well aware of the benefits of the Enlist weed control system. They’re getting exceptional weed control with the ability to use three postemergence herbicides: 2,4-D choline, glyphosate and glufosinate.

With the introduction of Enlist E3™ soybeans this year, these farmers can enjoy those same benefits across all their cotton and soybean acres.

“We’re excited to be able to bring a whole-farm solution to farmers,” says Haley Nabors, Enlist field specialist. “We’ve had Phytogen cottonseed available, but this is our first year having Enlist E3 soybeans commercially available.”

Farmers who are growing Enlist E3 soybeans this year are seeing the same exceptional weed control and the same on-target application advantages. Enlist Duo® is a convenient blend of 2,4-D choline and glyphosate. Enlist One® is a straight-goods 2,4-D choline with even greater tank-mix flexibility to give farmers more options. Both herbicides feature near-zero volatility.

“Growers in the South can now take advantage of the Enlist weed control system on cotton and soybean acres,” Nabors says. “Our soybean and cotton varieties have strong genetics and flexible weed control with multiple herbicide tolerances, so it makes sense for many producers to utilize the Enlist system in both crops.”

Value of multiple modes of action

The Enlist weed control system allows farmers to adopt a program approach to weed management, using multiple modes of action to keep weeds subdued throughout the growing season.

“The Enlist system offers a way for farmers to ‘start clean and stay clean’ whether they’re growing cotton or soybeans,” Nabors says. “Growers need to start with a burndown or tillage, and then use a preemergence residual application. Post-emergence, they can use Enlist One tank mixed with glyphosate or glufosinate, and potentially a layered residual on acres where it is needed, for a solid season-long weed control program.

“We don’t want to hold back yield potential or add to the weed seed bank for next year, so crack down on tough weeds – the tank mix of Enlist One plus glufosinate is a great post-emergence option, especially on acres with pigweed.”

Follow the label, target tough weeds

Farmers are learning to use the Enlist system and gaining more confidence with every application. It’s critical to follow the label on every application, as with any herbicide system.

“When farmers pay attention to conditions and spray on days when the weather is cooperating, they’re realizing these herbicides stay on target,” Nabors says. “When you follow the label requirements, you can make successful applications of Enlist herbicides.”

The result is excellent weed control while achieving on-target applications.
