N.D. to Hold Crop Advisor Workshop

Corn, soybeans, sunflower production and many other topics to be covered.

The 16th annual Advanced Crop Advisers Workshop is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, Feb. 21-22, at the Holiday Inn in Fargo.

The workshop is designed to provide in-depth discussion of selected topics for agricultural professionals who advise farmers on crop production. The event is organized and conducted by the North Dakota State University and University of Minnesota Extension Services.

On Feb. 21, educational sessions include:

  • Corn production forum

  • Soybeans: overcoming current yield barriers

  • Challenges with land drainage and Conservation Reserve Program conversion to cropland

  • Keeping diagnostic skills sharp during the off-season

  • Emotional intelligence and a balanced life

  • 2007 climate assessment and 2008 crop season weather forecast

On Feb. 22, educational sessions include:

  • Managing crops under the three H's

  • Tillage systems schematics

  • New strategies for sugar beets: disease management, strip-till and micronutrients

  • Sunflowers: management issues

Certified crop advisers attending the workshop will have the opportunity to receive 10 continuing education units. Preregistration is requested and the workshop fee is $140 if received by Feb. 15 or $75 if attending one day (late registration fees are $175 or $100 for one day).
