S.D. Dairies to Host Open House

Events are 'great opportunity' for people to see firsthand how committed South Dakota dairy farmers are to their cows."

Two South Dakota dairies are holding open houses Saturday to celebrate June Dairy month.

Royalwood Dairy, Brandon, S.D., will be hosting an open house from 9 am to noon. Global Dairy, Estelline, S.D., will open its doors from 11 am to 1 pm.

At Royalwood, visitors will be able to roam the dairy farm and enjoy a free pancake breakfast. Guided tours will be held at 9:30am and 11am. An activity area will also be available for kids visiting the dairy farm.

Global Dairy is serving visitors a beef lunch and offering tours of the 1,600-cow facility.

"We appreciate [the daries'] wiliness to open up their farm to their neighbors and folks from surrounding communities," says Steve Dick executive director for Ag United for South Dakota. "It is a great opportunity for people to see firsthand how committed South Dakota Dairy farmers are to their cows."

Royalwood Dairy is located 5 miles south of Brandon on SD Hwy 11 and 1/2 mile

The Royalwood open house in part by Ag United for South Dakota, Midwest Dairy Association and the South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council.

The Global Dairy open house is being sponsored by Ag United, Brookings County Extension, Cargill, Dacotah Bank, DairyNet Inc., First Bank & Trust of Brookings, Meta Bank, Vet Pharm and Valley Queen Cheese.
