Farm Industry News has been following Kilmer Farms as the family brings new technology into the operation. The well-run business has added significant acres in the past few years, and to take on that extra work the operation has added new tech as well.

Meticulous in their work, father, Darryl, and sons, Dan and Tim Kilmer, have long gotten by without auto-steering, row-control and other tech. They've always had information they can use for decision-making but for 2017 they're all-in with a wide range of new tools.

Both planters are outfitted with RowCommand row shut-off systems (Dan's planter had it last year, Tim's got outfitted over the winter). Dan's tractor has the Active Implement Guidance system which helps prevent implement drive by sliding the hitch left and right. And everyone is using AutoTrac auto-steering, reducing fatigue.

The operation, centered near Dwight, Ill., covers a range of farms in the area. As part of the Tech@Work project, we've been following their progress, and got to spend a couple days at the operation during the heat of corn planting. This gallery offers more information about the tech they use, and the way they're engaging the work at hand given the new tools they have.
