Wisconsin State Fair Livestock Auction Breaks Record

The 46th Annual Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction raised $313,350.

The 46th Annual Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction at the 2014 Wisconsin State Fair was one for the record books. The evening raised a total of $313,350 shattering the previous record of $255,400, raised in 2005 and surpassing the 2013 total by $76,600.

Bucky Badger and the UW-Marching Band welcomed everyone to the Case IH Coliseum and set the tone for a high-energy evening.  The exhibitors and their champion animals joined Gov. Scott Walker on stage as the auction kicked off. Bidding commenced with the grand champion steer (crossbred) exhibited by Lauren May of Mineral Point in Iowa County.  The  1,290  pound  steer  sold  for  $45,000  with  the  winning  bid  from Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. 

Barrow sets record
The grand champion barrow, a crossbred, exhibited by Myles Leahy of Lafayette County, brought a record $23,500. The grand champion lamb (Hampshire) was exhibited by Calvin Reilly of Lafayette County. It sold for $16,000. The annual auction recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of Wisconsin's youth exhibitors. • Grand champion barrow (crossbred) exhibited by Myles Leahy of Lafayette County; winning bid of $23,500 by Beer Capitol Distributing

• Grand champion lamb (Hampshire) exhibited by Calvin Reilly of Lafayette County; winning bid of $16,000 by Kevin Schuele

•Reserve grand champion steer (Chianina) exhibited by Allyson Whitcomb of Lafayette County; winning bid of $22,500 by Kenosha Beef International / Birchwood Foods

• Reserve grand champion barrow (crossbred) exhibited by Matt Doney of Iowa County; winning bid of $11,000 by Statewide Fencing Inc. and Interstate Parking Company

•Reserve grand champion Lamb (Suffolk) exhibited by Reid Suddeth of Iowa County; winning bid of $10,000 by Bob May Cattle Co.

•Champion any other breed steer exhibited by Sam Henderson of Racine County; winning bid of $20,000 by Anheuser-Busch

•Champion spotted barrow exhibited by Paula Pittz of Iowa County; sold for $10,500 to Pork-toberfeast Syndicate: Saz's, Bunzel's Meat Market, Leff's Lucky Town, Major Goolsby's, Country Fresh Meats, Zimmerman Architectural Studios, Trawicki Electric, All City Auto Sales, UNITS Mobile Storage, Milwaukee Admirals, Bartolotta Restaurant Group, Ironwood Golf Course, Mike Kleber and Legends of the Field 

• Champion any other breed lamb exhibited by Megan Blume of Iowa County; sold for $8,000 to Dalton Lumber & Supply, Trembling Prairie Farms and Alsum Farms & Produce

• Champion Shorthorn Steer exhibited by Jack Henderson of Racine County; winning bid of $17,000 by Walmart, Coca-Cola Refreshments and John Yingling

• Champion Berkshire barrow exhibited by Austin Lynd of Rock County; winning bid of $8,500 by MillerCoors

•Champion crossbred lamb exhibited by Calvin Reilly of Lafayette County; sold for $6,000 by Giant Slide Inc., II Dog Enterprises, SkyFair, G&G Concessions, Caribbean Smoothees / Siggy's and Crutchee's Concessions 

• Champion Hereford steer exhibited by Thomas Keene of Grant County; winning bid of $12,500 by Wisconsin State Fair Park Board, Crane Farms, Walmart and JCP Construction

• Champion Duroc barrow exhibited by Ben Amera of Dane County; winning bid of $2,500 by Dalton Lumber & Supply, Trembling Prairie Farms and Alsum Farms & Produce

•Champion natural colored lamb exhibited by McKenna Kent of Outagamie County; sold for $6,500 to Corporate Design Interiors and Truck Country

• Champion Hampshire barrow exhibited by Halie Schmitz of Iowa County; winning bid of $3,500 by America Works

• Champion Simmental steer exhibited by Peyton Leisgang of Outagamie County; winning bid of $6,000 by Halbman Company, Advanced Fun Technology / Ejection Seat and Minor's Garden Center
