N.D. Cattlemen Mourn Loss Of Reich

Jack Reich, former president of the North Dakota Stockmen's Association, and his 10-year-old son die in an auto accident in Minnesota.

North Dakota cattlemen are mourning the death of Jack Reich, Zap, N.D., and his son, Vander. Reich recently ended his term as president of the North Dakota Stockmen's Association.

Reich and his 10-year-old son died in a head on car accident in southeast Minnesota that also killed the driver of the other vehicle. Reich' wife, Mardee, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained injuries and is hospitalized in Rochester, Minn.

The Reichs were returning to North Dakota from St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., where their son had brain cancer surgery.

Authorities said that a pickup driven by Scott Hodgman, of West Concord, Minn., crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic and struck the Reichs' sports utility vehicle.

All vehicle occupants were wearing seat belts.

The Reichs have two younger children who stayed with their grandmother in North Dakota when they made the trip to Rochester.
