Pronghorns have increasingly become topics of conversation by farmers, ranchers, hunters, outfitters and wildlife watchers in the northern Panhandle, said a Texas Cooperative Extension specialist.

To help answer some questions about these animals, a Pronghorn Management Workshop has been set up on April 19 at the First National Bank in Dalhart at 302 Denrock, said Ken Cearley, Extension wildlife specialist in Canyon.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the program will adjourn at noon. There is no charge to attend.

"Anyone interested in pronghorns and their management are encouraged to join us for a morning dedicated to this unique species," Cearley said.

While each group may have a different interest in pronghorns – crop depredation, a potential income source or recreation – the meeting will provide information of value to all, he said.

"Identification of range plants important to pronghorns, increasing your pronghorn IQ, pronghorn biology and behavior, habitat needs and details of the permit issuance process are among the topics which will be addressed," Cearley said.

Three general continuing education units will be offered.

For more information, contact Cearley at 806-651-5760 or Nick Simpson, Extension agriculture agent in Dallam County, at 806-244-4434.
