Mike Pearson takes a look at opportunities for producers given the meat demand in China.

The Great Urbanization from 1995-2015 is a period known where farmers moved from the rural areas in China to the cities where jobs were being created. This created a huge opportunity for American farmers.

This move meant many of China's people needing to purchase all of their food needs for the first time.

Ag exports to China climbed rapidly with a high reached of 36.4 billion in 2023. And beef exports grew 10x larger than in 2014.

Now, it's time to look at the health of China's industry.

This has shown China's consumption of meat has grown dramatically.

Meat prices climbed faster than the prices of other commodities and consumers keep buying. The good news is that consumers keep the purchasing pattern for pork.

The consumption of meat is expected to reach 50 pounds per person over 10 years.

There are still questions that remain unanswered when it comes to the future but for now the exports of USA meat continues.

Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Mike Pearson, a farm broadcaster and host of
This Week in Agribusiness.
