Another weekend storm will bring rain and snow to California on Saturday, with snow levels dipping as low as 2,000 feet in some areas Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento.

Widespread mountain snow and valley rain is expected to arrive by Saturday night and continue into Sunday afternoon. Snow levels will be low around 2,500 to 3,000 feet and accumulating snow is expected down to 2500 feet.

The activity will become more showery Sunday evening and continue into Monday, forecasters predict. Light snow will be possible down to 2,000 feet Sunday night into Monday morning.

Up to an inch of rain could fall in some Central Valley areas through the weekend, according to the weather service.

A low-pressure system was moving through Southern California today, bringing showers and potential thunderstorms to some areas.

The activity comes as most areas are well below their normal seasonal rainfall totals and the U.S. Drought Monitor shows most of California as abnormally dry or in a moderate drought.

The federal Climate Prediction Center suggests better-than-average chances of wet weather in central and southern California over the next month, with drier conditions in the north.
