Yes, it has been twenty-five very successful years for the Texas Plant Protection Association (TPPA) to continue its mission of serving as a forum for communication and exchange of ideas among individuals and groups, including agribusiness, regulatory and service agencies, research agencies, and education service agencies.

The annual conference will be held Dec. 10 and 11 at the Brazos Center in Bryan, Texas.

TPPA has provided many challenging themes over the years including the first,  Getting Down to Earth, followed by  Management Tools for a Brighter Future, Building Established and Developing Technologies in Texas Agriculture, Biotechnology, Promise and Payoff, Surviving the Structural Changes in Agriculture, and Back to the Basics—just to name a few.

The success of the conference can be attributed to its organization, a triangular approach, with leadership made up of industry, Texas A&M University Research and TAMU Extension personnel. In addition, diverse committee members contribute challenging topics, which are of great interest to conference attendees.

This year’s general session is designed to showcase the changes and tremendous developments in agriculture over the past twenty-five years. It will include the past, present and future of herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides related to pest resistance and application changes throughout the State of Texas. Crop biotechnology, boll-weevil eradication, and precision ag are some of the greatest innovative advancements in agriculture that will be presented. Other presentations deal with the continually changing computer age and how it will affect Ag Communications, Ag Research and Extension in these challenging times.

Our breakout sessions will include research data and up-to-date information on cotton, grain, pasture and rangeland, and horticulture/turf.  As you can see, we have another outstanding program planned.  I would like to encourage you to attend the twenty-fifth annual TPPA Conference, “A Vision for Texas Agriculture.”  Let’s make this one the biggest and best conference ever!
