The LSU AgCenter recently released a handy pocket-size guide to help with identification and control of pests in and around buildings.

Titled “Pest Identification Guide for Pests In and Around Buildings,” the publication was supported with funds from the Southern Integrated Pest Management Center and was prepared by experts from the LSU AgCenter, Texas AgriLife, the University of Arkansas, Auburn University, the University of Florida and the University of Tennessee.

“This guide was designed to assist school personnel with identifying pests in and around their structures, but it can be helpful to anyone from homeowners to others with large commercial buildings,” said Dennis Ring, LSU AgCenter entomologist, who coordinated the project. “The pocket guide is designed to help anyone identify pests commonly found in and around buildings.”

The identification guide includes photos and information about various pests, such as ants, roaches, flies, rats, mice, termites, spiders, wasps, bees, bedbugs, fleas, mosquitoes, ticks and more. Diagrams and scales showing the size of some of the pests also are included to help in identification.

It is 3.5 by 5 inches in size and includes 52 full-color pages. Printed on a heavyweight coated paper and bound with a coil, the guide can be purchased for $12 from the LSU AgCenter’s online store at https://store.lsuagcenter.com/ or by phoning LSU AgCenter Communications at (225) 578-2263.
