An irrigation workshop will be held Feb. 5 in Delhi.

The event starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. at the Civic Center, located at 231 Denver St.

Topics to be covered include use of polyethylene tubing, ground water and surface water salinity, pipe fittings and water use efficiency.

Presenters from the LSU AgCenter will include soil scientist J Stevens and Richland Parish County Agent Keith Collins.

Additional presenters will include speakers from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Mississippi State University, U.S. Geological Survey, Soileau Industries, Irrigation Mart and Delta Plastics.

State Sen. Francis Thompson, chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture and Rural Development Committee, also will make remarks.

“With extended dry periods during growing seasons in recent years, irrigation is becoming more common in Louisiana,” said LSU AgCenter water resources specialist Bill Branch. “This meeting will be particularly beneficial for farmers of rice, cotton, corn and soybeans.”
