Bull leasing topic of Tennessee field day

A national expert on bull leasing programs will be the keynote speaker at the 2010 University of Tennessee Beef and Forage Field Day. Cody Jorgensen of South Dakota’s Jorgensen Land and Cattle Partnership will explain details about bull leasing at the June 10 event.

The field day is held by the UT Institute of Agriculture at the Blount Unit of the East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center near Knoxville.

Activities will begin with registration and a trade show at 7:00 a.m. The keynote presentation will begin at 8:30. Following the keynote presentation, attendees will divide into small groups to hear expert speakers discuss such topics as fertility and Angus bulls grazing tall fescue; selection criteria for bulls; and bull management prior to the breeding season.

A special presentation on towing safety will also be given by Lt. James McKenzie of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. His presentation will emphasize safely towing stock trailers.

Time will be available for all participants to attend each session as well as to visit the trade exhibits.

A youth program will be presented concurrent to the main program, and both programs will conclude with a sponsored lunch.

Following lunch a presentation of UT research into pasture weed control will be presented.

The UT Beef and Forage Field Day is a cooperative effort of UT AgResearch and the UT Extension Eastern Region. The Blount Unit of the East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center is located on Singleton Station Road, which is approximately eight miles south of the UT agricultural campus in Knoxville off U.S. Highway 129.
