Forty acres of cropland in southern Moody County, S.D., between Dell Rapid, S.D., and Jasper, Minn., sold for $10,200 per acre at the auction this winter. The property was almost 100% tillable. A “nice square quarter” section of cropland in northern Cass County, N.D., sold for approximately $4,412 per acre in a written bid auction. Handed down for 140 years
One hundred fifty acres in Yankton County, S.D., that had been in the same family for 140 years sold for approximately $6,405 per acre at auction this winter. “Currently this fertile land exudes stability and strength with mainly Class II clay soils ranked at an 88%,” the sale bill says. “Boasting of over 142 acres of Class II soils ranked at an 82% and higher, this farm offers 151.44 crop land acres.” The balance of the quarter section was made up of two tree-filled draws for water flow and to hold wildlife. Approximately 624 contiguous acres that had been in the Conservation Reserve Program in Grand Forks County, N.D., sold for $1,200 per acre. The land was a good candidate for tiling, the sale bill says. The seller had completed a CRP contract re-enrollment form and requested a 10-year contract.
