LAND AND CROP HELP: Get answers to your questions on land rent, crop marketing and other risk management topics at two upcoming ISU webinars. Farm Progress

What can farmers and farmland owners do to improve revenue opportunities in 2020? Corn prices have tumbled as a large 2020 crop looms in an era of large corn and soybean supplies, and extreme price uncertainty driven by COVID-19 curtailing demand.

Farmland ownership and crop marketing are topics to be covered at two webinars June 12 and 16. Speakers will include Kristine Tidgren, director of the ISU Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation, and Steve Johnson, farm management specialist, both with Iowa State University Extension.

Update on landowner issues

The first webinar titled Farmland Owners Update will be at noon June 12. Tidgren will update farmland owners on recent legal and tax updates, including a review of COVID-19 legislation, particularly Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs).

Johnson will discuss the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) payments, 2020 crop budgets, and the results of ISU’s recently released survey of cash rental rates for 2020. This webinar will last about one hour, followed by questions.

The webinar is free but requires preregistration online at the ISU CALT site.

Focus on crop marketing

A second webinar titled Crop Marketing Strategies will be at 7 p.m. June 16. Johnson will review both old- and new-crop supply-and-demand and cash price projections, highlight crop marketing strategies and tools, and feature written crop marketing plans for a 1,000-acre row-crop example farm. The webinar will last about one hour, followed by questions.

The free webinar requires preregistration at the ISU CALT site. If you miss the live webinar, search for Webinar Replay and Resources at calt.iastate.edu.
