The Land Stewardship Project and Soil Builders’ Network are sponsoring a grazing field day July 13 at the farm of Adam and Amanda Bedtke, Plainview.
The Bedtkes have an organic grazing dairy and have no-tilled and interseeded diverse cover crops into their corn, oat and hay rotation. Soil health and profitability are key goals. They have never fertilized their corn and they are working to graze every acre of their farm.
Registration and lunch begin at noon. Lunch consists of pulled pork sandwiches (pork from Hidden Streams Farm), 1919 Root Beer and Organic Valley snacks. A free will offering is requested.
The pasture walk is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and all livestock farmers interested in pasture production are invited. Key topics include grazing cropland, rest periods and soil fertility.
The Bedtke farm is located about halfway between Plainview and Weaver on County Road 41. The address is 11418 County Road 41, Plainview. It is approximately 6 miles east of the Plainview John Deere. Look for LSP signs. The event will be held rain or shine.
Please RSVP by July 11 to LSP's Liana Nichols at 507-523-3366 or [email protected].
Landowners, land managers and beginning farmers are invited for a supplementary grazing orientation prior to the event. Contact LSP's Robin Moore at 320-269-2105 or [email protected] or more information on this and to RSVP.
