California Citrus Mutual is hosting a one-mile walk around the California state Capitol on Wednesday to raise awareness of food insecurity and hunger.

The noon event will begin with remarks from the organization's president, Casey Creamer, and Senate Pro Tempore Toni Atkins.

The citrus industry pledges to donate 1,000 pounds of fresh citrus fruit to California food banks for each participant in the walk, according to a news release. The fourth annual event is expected to raise over 300,000 pounds of fresh citrus for community food banks across the state.

People can register in person at the event beginning at 11:30 a.m.
