Soil type varies across the country; the needs of the soil in a Montana field can be vastly different than in Minnesota. A new three-part video series explains how MicroEssentials offers three distinct formulas, each tailored to meet the unique nutritional needs of specific crops and soil conditions to aid a variety of soil types.
The videos all feature an agronomist who focuses on soil profiles in Indiana, Montana and Minnesota to better illustrate the different formulations of each product and how MicroEssentials helps to increase yield and productivity. With today's high-yielding crops, we are asking more from our soils than ever before, and it's important to replenish soil with the nutrients it needs year, after year.
"A majority of the growing area is a very productive soil with good organic matter, but as yields have increased, fertility has gone down," says Lance Loveless, sales manager at Crop Production Services in Delphi, Indiana. "We don't get the nutrients we need from the air anymore, so we're addressing the needs of our soil with different MicroEssentials products."
The Fusion technology provided by MicroEssentials combines vital nutrients into one uniquely formulated, nutritionally balanced granule, ensuring uniform nutrient distribution across the field and improved nutrient uptake.
"As the soil types really vary around Lake Crystal, depending on the region, MicroEssentials becomes more and more helpful for the crop," says Gary Spence, agronomist for Crystal Valley Co-op in Lake Crystal, Minnesota. "We used to only put sulfur on 2.5 percent organic matter or less. Now we're putting it on almost all of our soils because there's not the sulfur availability that there used to be. Using MicroEssentials, you're going to get even distribution in the field because all the nutrients you need are in one granule."
Each distinct formula allows for different variations of each nutrient to be available to the crops over the growing season. The three MicroEssentials formulas, SZ (12-40-0-10S-1Zn), S15 (13-33-0-15S) and S10 (12-40-0-10S), supply the nutrients needed for a variety of crops and soil conditions.
With improved air quality standards, sulfur emissions have been greatly reduced, which has decreased the amount of sulfur that is deposited by rainfall. This creates the need to have more readily available sulfur in our soils. MicroEssentials supplies the soil with two forms of sulfur: sulfate sulfur and elemental sulfur. Sulfate sulfur provides plants with the sulfur they need at the beginning of the season, whereas elemental sulfur oxidizes throughout the growing season to provide a season-long supply of sulfur, from planting to maturity.
