Husker Harvest Days scenes from '78

Slideshow: Join us in celebrating HHD's 40th anniversary this week; here's a look at some scenes from the early days of HHD in 1977 and 1978.

The year was 1978. Jimmy Carter was president; “Laverne and Shirley” was a top television show; and the Bee Gees were "Stayin’ Alive." Gasoline cost just 63 cents per gallon, while an eight-track player was priced at $169. And Husker Harvest Days was just starting.

Farmers were drawn to the show's tractor, tillage and irrigation demonstrations. Ranchers traveled to Nebraska to see the latest in cattle handling and haying equipment. Families walked the dirt streets to enjoy the show.

Take a step back in time with these photos and remember Husker Harvest Days 1978.
