Cargo ships are vital, but burn a lot of fuel. According to the International Maritime Organization, ocean shipping uses about 5 percent of total global oil production. The Renewable Fuel for Ocean-Going Vessels Act would allow biofuel producers to earn RINs for gallons created to be used in maritime transport. The legislation introduction was celebrated by several ag groups, as well as shipping organizations.
