Michigan Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer program wants to hear from its young farmers to capture a holistic understanding of members and their expectations.

The MFB Young Farmer program develops new agricultural leaders and provides these members with an understanding of the organization’s philosophy and goals. The program identifies and serves the needs of young farmers, ages 18 to 35, to assist them in their personal and professional lives.

“As a state-level committee, we want to make sure we’re providing relevant news and information in addition to leadership development opportunities for young farmers across Michigan,” says Adam Dietrich, an Ottawa County young farmer and chairman of the state committee. “That includes understanding communication preferences, what kinds of information is most helpful, and where young farmers are going to get their information.”

Qualifying young farmers completing the survey will be eligible for prizes, including an Apple watch, iPads, smart TVs and Yeti coolers, as well as a grand prize of a side-by-side Polaris Ranger. The survey deadline is June 14.

In addition to communication preferences, Dietrich says the survey responses, which will be kept confidential, also will help provide a more thorough demographic profile and identify the unique needs of young farmer members across the state.

“We know many young farmers are already actively engaged in the organization at the county and state level, but we’re always striving to improve the overall young farmer Farm Bureau experience,” Dietrich says. “So, if you haven’t already, take five minutes to complete the survey to help our committee gain some insight.”

What if you miss the age cutoff of 35? Dietrich suggests encouraging younger family members and friends to take the survey instead.
