MSU Extension hosts agricultural outlook conference

Agricultural specialists with Mississippi State University will share updates and forecasts for 2024 on the state’s largest industry during a conference in January.

The 2024 Mississippi Agricultural Outlook Conference will be held on Jan. 11 at the Bost Conference Center at MSU, starting at 8:30 a.m. Producers, ag lenders and farm managers are encouraged to attend.

Hosted by the MSU Extension Service and the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, the conference will provide a comprehensive outlook on agricultural economic conditions in 2024. This forecast will be presented by faculty members of the MSU Department of Agricultural Economics.

Nathan Kauffman, senior vice president and Omaha branch executive of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, will be the featured keynote speaker to kick off the event. Morning sessions will focus on a discussion of the next Farm Bill and updates on the Mississippi economy, including a general update by Corey Miller, state economist for Mississippi.

Afternoon sessions will include sector-specific updates from the agricultural economics department. These presentations will address the outlook for livestock, row crops, farm budgets, labor markets and land values.
