Mike Pearson takes a look at the possibility of a 2023 Farm Bill-- it's not looking good. There will only 15 working days when they return from the summer break to accomplish the feat before the session ends.

The farm bill legislation which is passed every 5 years was most recently passed in 2018 but crafting a new one can be a slow process because it is composed of 12 different parts.

The commodity revenue support, forestry, SNAP (formerly food stamps), conservation and more are only a portion of the products that need financial assistance.

It is expected ot be record large-- first trillion dollar farm bill with costs expected to be 1.5 trillion over the next 10 years.

Commodity groups are expecting changes and the bill is expected to be evolutionary and not revolutionary.

However, 2023 might just the year of an extension and not a new piece of legislation.

Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Mike Pearson, a farm broadcaster and host of This Week in Agribusiness.
