SCHOLARSHIP BOOST: A $2,500 award from America’s Farmers Grow Communities program at Bayer will enable K-State to award five $500 scholarships to distance-learning students attending K-State’s Global Campus.

K-State Global Campus gets scholarship boost

America’s Farmers Grow Communities program awards $2,500 to K-State Global Campus.

Kansas State University’s Global Campus, a program that has offered a college education to adult learners around the world for more than 50 years, just got a boost to the scholarship fund that enables it to offer scholarships specifically for distance students earning their undergraduate or graduate degrees online.

As part of the America's Farmers Grow Communities program sponsored by the Bayer Fund, K-State’s Global Campus received a $2,500 contribution to its scholarship fund for online students living in rural Kansas. The contribution has been used to fund five $500 scholarships for rural Kansas students working toward a degree in the fall 2019 semester.

Global Campus was nominated by a farm family in Riley County who chose the online education organization because of its land-grant mission and focus on providing education to students wherever they live, including those who are involved in agriculture in rural communities.

Now in its 10th year, America's Farmers Grow Communities partners with farmers across the country to support nonprofit organizations that strengthen rural communities.

"We are so excited to receive this contribution from America's Farmers Grow Communities, and we appreciate their support of online education," says Karen Pedersen, dean of Global Campus. "Many online students are unable to study full time as they meet the demands of work, family and other obligations and many traditional scholarships require students to study full time. This additional support will make an enormous difference in the lives of these students."

The America's Farmers programs, a philanthropic arm of Bayer, has awarded more than $50 million to rural communities in the last decade. The Bayer Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the communities where farmers and Bayer employees live and work, provides funding for food and nutrition, education, and community development projects.

Kansas State University Global Campus has been ranked as the No. 1 online college in Kansas and is in the top 25% of online colleges nationwide, according to TheBestSchools.org

Classes are taught by the same faculty who teach on-campus courses. Graduates get a diploma that is exactly the same as that conferred on students who take their courses on campus. K-State was named No. 1 in Kansas for best tuition value by Money magazine. Students who live outside of the state, or even the country, are charged the same tuition rate as Kansas residents.
