Mike Pearson takes a look at an outbreak of potato wart on Prince Edward Island in Canada.

Spores can live for 30 years in fields and kills over 50 percent of the crop.

In November 2020, the Canadian government announced the detection of potato wart. There are no methods of eradication.

The disease can live in the field for 30 years and can survived being cooked at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 hours and can survive digestion by an animal.

The Canadian government launched a program to quarantine fields with the potato wart.

Prince Edward is known for growing potatoes for processing and seed. However, seed isn;t being sold which is a major economic driver.

American farmers want to make sure they are not getting into the USA because if they do, it will be catastrophic.
