Powerful storm hammers Batesville, Mississippi

A mid-afternoon weather system showered down on Batesville, Miss., and the Panola County Co-op on Hwy 6 felt its punch and power.

Parts of the Mississippi Delta have been inundated with rain so far this year. Farmers around Marks and Batesville were finally able to get rolling last week. The last thing farmers needed was more rain around that area, but around 3 p.m. on June 1, a microburst zeroed in on the Panola County Co-op owned by Steve and Kay Nichols on Hwy 6 in Batesville, Miss., and reminded everyone of the destructive power possessed by Mother Nature. Here are a few images taken just after the system passed through.
