Member states of the Wheat Export Trade Education Committee voted to dissolve the organization by majority vote at a recent meeting held in Boise, ID.

"WETEC focused on the advancement and promotion of trade policies developed by both the National Association of Wheat Growers and the United States Wheat Associates, Inc.," states Mike Sullivan, President of the Nebraska Wheat Growers Association. "Work will now begin on disseminating those duties to existing organizations as we begin to piece together our world situation following the collapse of the WTO Doha Round."

A joint committee, formed with members of both USW and NAWG, has recommended that WETEC responsibilities be reassigned as follows:

  • USW will become lead contact for trade policy development, negotiations with U. S. Trade Representative, and analysis of trade prospects, and

  • NAWG will maintain a lead role in congressional processes, evaluation of impact on domestic policy, and lobbying efforts on all trade policy matters.

The transition has already started, with key personnel in both national offices taking on these responsibilities.
