AgriLabs has added Agri-Mectin Plus Clorsulon to its range of branded anthelmintics.
Agri-Mectin Plus Clorsulon provides an alternative to beef producers and veterinarians in areas where liver flukes are a concern, says Adam Yankowsky, business unit manager for livestock products.
Agri-Mectin Plus Clorsulon is a sterile injectable dewormer with 1% ivermectin, plus clorsulon to expand treatment and control of liver flukes in cattle.
Company adds clorsulon to its ivermectin dewormer to handle liver fluke problems.
Across the United States, there are several regions that are endemic, essentially where the soil and environment are wet and support snail habitats. When snails become infected with the parasite Fasciola hepatica, they shed a motile ciliated form that attaches to grass and are subsequently ingested by grazing cattle. These migrate to the liver where they grow and shed eggs back into the environment to continue the cycle again, Yankowsky says.
Heavy liver fluke infestations can lead to weight loss, compounded with reduced milk output, says Roger Winter, technical services veterinarian for AgriLabs. It also can have a negative impact on reproduction efficiency and general body condition scores.
Winter suggests producers work with their veterinarians to determine the most appropriate parasite control program for their operation.
AgriLabs provides a broad range of widely used parasiticides for cattle, sheep and swine. Products include Agri-Mectin 1% injection, Agri-Mectin Pour-On, Prohibit and Agri-Mectin Plus Clorsulon.
All AgriLabs products, plus supportive nutrients often used when deworming, are available from the company's network of distribution partners.
