Last week, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack traveled to California where he and Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus launched the deployment of the Great Green Fleet.

The fuel used by the USS John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group contains an alternative fuel made from the fat of beef cattle in the Midwest—a material that would otherwise be a waste product.

Use of homegrown renewable fuels like the one used by the Great Green Fleet help to secure America’s energy independence and a clean energy future, while at the same time supporting America's farmers and ranchers with new sources of revenue for their products and reducing our dependence on foreign oil.
