There were some interesting land auctions in the Dakotas recently. Sold were tiled cropland, irrigated cropland and grasslands with a gravel deposit beneath them. Check out the results:

Tiled cropland in Lincoln County, S.D.
About 70 acres of tiled cropland near Centerville in Lincoln County, S.D., sold for $9,100 per acre in March. The land was available to farm in 2016, was in a corn/soybean rotation and had a Surety AgriData productivity rating of 84.9. -- Auction managed and conducted by Westra Atkins Land & Auction, LLC, Beresford S.D. $8,025 for farmland/acreage sites

About 73 acres of cropland next to home sites in Brookings County, S.D., sold for $8,025 per acre. The land was rented out for the 2016 crop year and the buyer received a credit of 14,500. There was about a one-half acre of trees and virgin sod in the northeast corner of the property that could be converted to farmland.  The property was zoned for two rural acreage sites. -- Auction conducted and managed by United Country/Advantage Land Co., Brookings, S.D. Irrigated quarter sell for $5,000 per acre
Two irrigated quarter sections of land in Beadle County, S.D. sold for $5,000 per acre at a public auction Jan. 27. A dryland quarter section of land, which had soils that could be irrigated, sold for $4,100 per acre at the same auction. The irrigated acres had 2012 Zimmatic pivots with drop nozzles on them.  The auction was well attended, according to the auctioneer. -- Auction managed and conducted Ace Realty and Auction, Huron, S.D. More irrigation land sells
Cropland in southeast South Dakota sold for $5,850 per acre at an auction March 17. The land was in Turner County. The 141 acres was in a corn/soybean rotation and was old subject to an existing cash rent lease in place for the 2016 crop year. The land had a water permit to irrigate 120 acres and included a 45 foot deep well, 16 inch casing, pumping approximately 650-700 gallons a minute In the parcel there were about 124 acres of cropland and 13 acres of grass. Farming and hunting land
About 160 acres in Clark County, S.D., sold for $2,942 per acre an auction in February. The property consisted of 140 acres of cropland and 20 acres of cattail sloughs and wetlands. Gravel deposit boosts price
700 acres in Hughes County, S.D., sold at auction on Feb. 26 in three tracts. A piece with a significant amount of gravel beneath it for future development sold for $3,973 per acre. Two tracts with highly productive soils that were planted to grass sold for $2,700 and $3,000 per acre.  All were purchased by neighbors. -- Auction managed and conducted by Todd Schuetzle, Pierre, S.D.
