The North Carolina Soybean Producers Association hired Owen Wagner of Raleigh as its new CEO, effective April 15, 2019.

Wagner most recently worked at SAS Institute in Cary, N.C., where he was manager of agricultural analytics supporting the use of predictive analytics software at the USDA and land grant universities. Prior to that, he worked as an agricultural economist at LMC International in Washington, D.C. In that role he worked in support of the United Soybean Board (USB), the United States Soybean Export Council (USSEC), the National Biodiesel Board, and Qualified State Soybean Boards (QSSBs), where he gained experience with soybean markets and technical developments. 

Wagner also has a background in research with the USDA and agricultural policy, including with soybeans, and served as a regulatory manager for the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association. He holds a B.S. in agronomy from North Carolina  State University, a M.S. in agricultural and applied Economics from Virginia Tech and is working on a second Masters’ in biological and agricultural Engineering from N.C. State.

“Owen Wagner will provide the North Carolina Soybean Producers Association with expertise in the agriculture industry, experience with soybeans, and the ability to help us achieve our mission to maximize the profitability of soybean farmers in the state in an economically and environmentally sound manner,” said Jeff Tyson, president of the North Carolina Soybean Producers Association. “We are excited to have him on board and about the future of our organization under his leadership.”

Wagner will lead the association’s checkoff-funded soybean research and promotion programs, as well as advocacy and membership programs to improve farm profitability.
