Six students studying soybean production at North Carolina State University have received soybean research scholarships sponsored by the North Carolina Soybean Producers Association.

The scholarships are based on merit and need, with a strong preference for students from North Carolina families who farm soybeans. The association established the scholarships to support students who are seeking careers in the soybean industry and awards the scholarships annually.

“We are pleased to provide scholarships through the soybean checkoff to this strong group of students who have shown an interest in the soybean industry,” said Jeff Peed, a soybean farmer from Aurora, N.C. and president of the North Carolina Soybean Producers Association. “We are certain they will make a positive impact on agriculture and soybean farming, and are glad to help support their education.”

Recipients of the North Carolina Soybean Research Scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic year are:

Joshua Joyner, Johnston Cty., will be a junior majoring in Plant and Soil Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

James Ferebee, Currituck Cty., will be a senior majoring in Agribusiness Management in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Dustin Black, Randolph Cty., will be a senior majoring in Plant Biology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Collin Blalock, Wilson Cty., will be a sophomore majoring in Agricultural Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Tyler Englebright, Granville Cty., will be a second year student majoring in Field Crop Technology in the Agricultural Institute.

Joseph Hunter, Lenoir Cty., will be a senior majoring in Agricultural Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
