The California rice industry and wildlife groups are undertaking a pilot program in the Sacramento Valley to determine if certain management changes in rice fields can improve wildlife habitat and waterfowl numbers in this part of the Pacific Flyway. The partnership involves the California Rice Commission (CRC), PRBO Conservation Science, Audubon California, and other groups. Paul Buttner, CRC environmental affairs manager, discusses the program specifics.
