NEW PACKAGING: Graeter’s Ice Cream has a new packaging design celebrating its 150th birthday, which is shared with Ohio State University.

Graeter’s Ice Cream, a family-owned craft ice cream maker since 1870, has announced a new packaging design celebrating its 150th birthday, which it shares with Ohio State University.

The indulgent ice cream brand is unveiling a special pint design on one of its signature flavors. Graeter’s Ice Cream Buckeye Blitz flavor will adorn the Block O and celebrate the shared milestone..

The Ohio State University-branded packaging is exclusive to the Buckeye Blitz flavor, as an ode to the iconic emblem of the Big 10 university.

This is the first packaging refresh since the brand last updated its pint design six years ago. Ice cream lovers can expect the new packaging to adorn every Graeter’s flavor by early 2020. In addition to the special packaging, the Graeter family will unveil additional 150-year celebration initiatives as the milestone draws near.

“Our exclusive Ohio State-themed packaging is a true reflection of Ohio pride,” says Richard Graeter, fourth-generation owner and the president and CEO of Graeter’s Ice Cream. “We’re honored to share a 150th birthday with such an esteemed institution, Ohio State University. We’re eager to celebrate this special milestone together.”

Darker pint colors stand out

The new Graeter’s pints will feature a darker color palate, straying away from the traditional white packaging that usually appears on ice cream freezer doors. The darker color scheme conveys the indulgence of the Graeter’s flavor profiles, especially Graeter’s signature dark chocolate chips, and intentionally maximizes space usage and composition. The simple, clean, traditional look reflects the lavish flavors unique to the company, according to Graeter, and seeks to reinforce the passion the Graeter family has for making generations of memories with the families it serves. The special Buckeye Blitz pint will adorn Ohio State’s signature scarlet and gray, along with the iconic Block O.

Graeter’s Ice Cream produces craft ice cream using French pots, a small-batch, artisanal method of production dating back over a century. Today, Graeter’s currently has 55 retail stores and ships more than 300,000 pints annually for online mail order sales. Graeter’s can also be found in more than 4,000 grocery stores in 46 states.
