Simplicity not always a virtue

We’ve all heard the phrase “Keep it simple stupid.” But Dr. Mike Owen says anything that is advertised as being simple whether it be a different crop cultivar or a tactic is destined to fail relatively soon after the adoption of that tactic. Thus, diversity is the thing that needs to be employed by growers to better manage weeds and to keep the resistance at bay. Owen, who says the glyphosate resistance problem is increasing in Iowa “at a much faster rate than  I anticipated, made those comments at the annual Integrated Crop Management Conference sponsored by Iowa State University. Owen is Extension weed specialist at Iowa State.
