Saving water profitably

The growing demand for water among municipalities is creating situations where cities are paying farmers not to farm their land, a practice sometimes called “buy and dry.” While that might provide short-term benefits for producers, it may not be the best course for rural communities or the land itself. Colorado State University’s Neil Hansen discussed ways farmers can use less water and still get credit for it during a presentation at the National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants annual meeting in Ft. Worth.
