Mississippi State University researchers will provide insight into their crop studies and listen to farmers’ ideas for future projects during the June 17 field day at the Delta Research and Extension Center at Stoneville, Miss.

Corn, cotton, peanuts and soybeans will be the focus of the field day, which begins with registration at 10 a.m. at the Charles W. Capps Building and is followed by a sponsored lunch at noon.

Agronomy, entomology, pathology and weed science field tours will take place in the demonstration and research plots from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on the station.

“This midseason field day is timely because we can address some of the major row crop concerns as they are occurring in the field rather than having a field day at the more traditional time,” said Tom Allen, MSU Extension plant pathologist and field day chairman.

The Delta Branch Experiment Station — the largest of MSU’s 16 branch stations and research units located throughout Mississippi — covers about 1,650 acres. Row crops are grown on about 1,200 acres, and soil types vary from very fine sandy loams to heavy clays.

Farmers registered for the field day will be eligible for door prices during the meal. Vendors will have displays and be available to answer questions.
