Index insurance insuring African farmers’ success

Farming is a risky business, but nowhere is it more risky than in Africa where drought or insects can wipe out a family’s livelihood. For many years, farmers in Africa had no way to insure themselves against losses. But an innovative new program in Kenya called Index Insurance is helping protect growers against losses and allowing them expand their production and landholdings. Dr. Marco Ferroni explained the new program in this interview at the 2010 World Food Prize Symposium in Des Moines, Iowa.
