California cherry research review is Jan. 27 in Stockton

Those interested in California’s cherry industry are invited to attend the California Cherry Research Review event on Jan. 27 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Stockton, Calif.

The cherry agenda will include:

8:30 a.m. – Welcome – Jim Culbertson, Manager, California Cherry Advisory Board

8:40 – “Fall urea sprays for controlling bacterial canker in cherries” – Joe Grant, University of California Cooperative Extension, San Joaquin County

8:50 – “Diagnosis, epidemiology, and control of canker diseases in sweet cherry” – Doug Gubler, Dept. of Plant Pathology, UC Davis

9:15 – “Managing virus diseases detrimental to cherry production” – Ken Eastwell, Washington State University (WSU), Prosser, Wash.

9:40 – “California Cherry Advisory Board Update” - Jim Culbertson

10:00 – Break

10:20 – “Branch induction in young sweet cherry trees without injury to bark: Bio-regulators, fruit loosening, and mechanical harvest of sweet cherry” – Don Elfving, WSU, Wenatchee, Wash.

The event is sponsored by the University of California and California Cherry Advisory Board. It will be held in the Evelyn Costa Assembly Room, Robert J. Cabral Agricultural Center, 2101 E. Earhart Ave., Stockton.

Two hours of continuing education credits will be offered.
