The ninety-fifth annual meeting of the Arkansas Seed Growers Association will be held on Jan. 25 at the Rice Branch Experiment Station in Stuttgart, Ark. Lunch will be served.

Registration will start at 8 a.m. and the program will begin around 8:50 a.m.

“We’ve got a great line-up of speakers and timely topics,” says Scooter Hodges, president of the association. “Folks don’t need to miss it.”

Arkansas-based attorney Joel Cape’s talk on the Roundup Ready 1 (RR1) trait coming off patent “will definitely be of interest to everyone. Farmers want to know if they can save seed and how breeding programs can make use of the trait. (Cape) will explain all of that. But there will be plenty of other highlights.”

For more on Cape's presentation, see here.

Also on the agenda:

  • Battling bacterial panicle blight in rice.

“This is really a big issue for rice farmers, right now,” says Hodges.

  • A presentation by economist Scott Stiles.

  • Pros and cons of on-farm grain storage.

  • An update from the Arkansas Plant Board.

A short business meeting will be held following lunch.

For more information, contact Hodges at (800) 264-4433, (870) 674-4100 or e-mail [email protected]. Kathy Gardner, the association’s executive secretary, can be reached at (870) 523-3195.
