The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will host the annual Texas Farm and Ranch Management Symposium following the Texas Commodity Symposium at the Amarillo Farm and Ranch Show.

The AgriLife Extension program will run from 1-5:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 in the Grand Plaza of the Amarillo Civic Center, said Danny Nusser, AgriLife Extension district administrator in Amarillo.

Producers can earn 3.5 continuing education units (one in laws and regulations, 0.75 in integrated pest management and 1.75 in general), Nusser said.

The lineup of topics and speakers are as follows:

-- Laws and regulations, Dr. Don Renchie, AgriLife Extension agricultural and environmental safety specialist, College Station.

-- Integrated pest management principles and techniques, Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist.

-- Water management and yields through tillage comparisons, Dr. Louis Baumhardt, U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service researcher at Bushland.

-- Controlling Roundup-tolerant weeds such as bindweed and horseweed, Dr. Brent Bean, AgriLife Extension agronomist.

The earlier Texas Commodity Symposium begins with registration at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude with a catered lunch, hosted by Corn Producers of Texas, Texas Grain Sorghum Association, Texas Wheat Producers Association, Plains Cotton Growers, Inc. and the Texas Peanut Producers Board.

The Amarillo Farm and Ranch Show will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 1-3 in the Amarillo Civic Center. It is expected to feature more than 500 companies showcasing agricultural products and services. Admission is $2.

Both the Texas Farm and Ranch Management Symposium and the Texas Commodity Symposium are free with the farm show admission fee.
